Have you heard of the brand BA STAR yet? I wasn’t familiar with them until I received the opportunity to try out one of their Lip Pencils. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised in two ways: first, all the photos are taken in natural light… so I was not expecting the color this lip pencil turned out to be when worn! Secondly, I was not expecting a lip pencil to perform the way this one did. (Wait ’til you see how it looks when worn!)
BA STAR‘s “About Us” page shares their core belief: “Whether you’re a top ranked competitor or just starting out! Remember: even the best were “beginners” — So be creative. Try something new! Never be afraid!” This brand built themselves around creating performance makeup for cheerleaders, dancers, and competitors–but thankfully they haven’t forgotten about individuals. While they have options to group order for teams, studios, schools, etc., there’s no minimum purchase, which is great for individuals like me–so it’s fine if you want one of each product or if you’re just wanting to try a lip color.
I received the BA Star Lip Pencil in the shade Holiday Red, which is described as the “perfect stage red”. Now, I know what you’re thinking, and I was thinking it, too: when looking at the pencil in natural light, it has a somewhat bronze appearance with a chartreuse iridescence… how does that make a stage red? There was only one way to find out, and that was to just go ahead and put it on. In the next photo, you’ll see why I was so pleasantly surprised.
Each lip pencil costs $8.75 USD and you receive product. They offer four shades of their lip pencil, each shade meant to stand out and make a statement due to their original intended use for stage and competition.

Yep, I was not expecting this color. Look at that shade! Did you expect such a a bright, raspberry red from how the product in the lip pencil looks?? Once applied to my lips, it totally transformed. Not too light and not too dark, just perfectly wearable. No weird bronze or brown cast to this red, and no iridescence or shimmer that I could detect. It applied very smoothly from the pencil with a great cream finish, and felt very moisturizing to my lips. I didn’t need a lip brush to help with application, I simply lined & filled and had perfect coverage. The color didn’t bleed around my lip line and it stayed fresh looking. Plus, I got a few compliments when wearing it out and about, which never hurts.
